Tish Buckholtz (they/them) is a non-binary LCSW and EMDR therapist who focuses on trauma-informed care. Tish specializes in the TQ2SLB and BIPOC communities and welcomes all identities. Tish is a person with lived mental unwellness experience and a community organizer who brings a comprehensive approach to care. Tish spent 17 years providing clinical case management and supportive counseling in homes, schools, residential settings, and an inpatient psychiatric facility. Tish has been practicing as a therapist for 4 years at a community-based clinic. Tish has had experience providing support for people with all identities living in extreme states such as dissociation, those who identify as Voice Hearers and Vision Seers, people struggling with severe expressions of mood such as anxiety, anger, depression, trauma responses, and relief seeking through substance and self-harm.

Tish believes in addressing the mind, body, spirit, and emotional self through decolonized and liberation psychology perspectives. Tish believes that the entire person deserves care when they are seeking support. Tish will assist in developing carceral alternatives to care, such as T-Maps, Pod Maps, and Peer Respite or support options.

Tish graduated with their Master’s in Social Work from the University of Houston in 2012 and is a current enrollee of IDHA’s Transformative Mental Health Core Curriculum.TTish is a bi-cultural person who was born and raised on the occupied region of Susquehannock & Lenapehoking Lands on the East Coast by their maternal grandparents. Tish went to college, lived, and worked in Philadelphia, PA until the 2007 recession eliminated their employment and over 2 dozen more that held the same roles due to a massive budget shortfall. Tish understands what it is like to have to live off of government assistance and leave family, familiarity, and long-term friends behind to pursue economic opportunities.

Tish is a survivor of many things and has always sought to provide hope and healing to anyone else who has lived through similar things. Tish’s trauma experiences drive their unrelenting passion to ensure trauma-informed care.

Tish is a parent to a high school student and 2 incredible dogs.

Tish now resides and works on the occupied territories of the Karanakwa, Sana, Coahuiltecan, and Isha peoples.

Tish further acknowledges that this area was once home to Mexicans & enslaved African ancestors. This is land is now known as Houston, TX.
